Mazda Gives Green Light on the MX-5 GT

Jeff Perez

The Mazda MX-5 GT made its debut at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed and it immediately captured the hearts of every auto writer around the globe. With its 2.0-liter 203-hp engine, quirky good looks, and attention to detail, how could it not? But the best news regarding this modified Miata has just dropped– it is going into production…with a catch.

According to Auto Express, Mazda has been thinking long and hard about the MX-5 GT’s future. Of course, the concept seen in Goodwood wasn’t prepared by Mazda in-house, but rather, the Jota Sport team’s pet project. Mazda has once again given the nod to Jota to construct and offer the MX-5 GT…as a kit.

Word is that price for this Mazda performance vehicle should sit at around £30,000 ($48,000), which includes conversion from the £18,495 (29,800) donor car. If the GT comes to the U.S., it is rumored that it will not cost that much.

No word from Mazda just yet, but with the MX-5 reaching its final stages of the current generation, the GT should come sooner than later.
