McCarran airport traffic up 2.6 percent in May

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Officials in Las Vegas say McCarran International Airport handled more passengers in May than a year earlier.

Data released Monday shows nearly 3.8 million people flew in and out of the airport last month. That's 2.6 percent more people than flew in May 2012.

Total airport traffic is down less than one percent in the first five months of 2013, compared with the same period last year.

Domestic traffic was up 2.1 percent in May, while the number of passengers flying internationally increased by 3.8 percent. Domestic carriers make up about 90 percent of traffic.

Of the top five airlines serving the airport, Allegiant Airlines saw the biggest passenger gain in May.

McCarran is the seventh-busiest airport in the country.
