BATON ROUGE, La., May 08, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Amedisys, Inc. (AMED), America’s leading independent home health, hospice and personal care company, commends bipartisan legislation to preserve and expand home health to those who need it the most.
“On behalf of our team at Amedisys and the Medicare beneficiaries we serve, we applaud Representative Terri Sewell (D-AL) and the bipartisan members of the U.S. House of Representatives for today’s introduction of the Home Health Payment Innovation Act of 2019 (H.R. 2573),” stated Amedisys President and CEO Paul Kusserow. “This legislation and the companion bill introduced in February by Senator Collins (R-ME) serve a dual purpose – expanding patient access to home health care and ensuring suitable reimbursement for providers – which ultimately allows patients to stay where they most want to be, in the home.”
The bipartisan bill, introduced in Congress on Wednesday, would not only preserve but also expand access for millions of Medicare beneficiaries to vitally needed health care services that are delivered to the home. This legislation, when enacted, would ensure that home health providers and our patients are not adversely impacted under the Patient Driven Groupings Model (PDGM) in 2020, as this bill would prohibit CMS from making behavioral assumptions regarding home health responses to the new payment model.
Amedisys appreciates the original cosponsors joining Representative Sewell in sponsoring this bill to protect the home health benefit so that aging Americans can continue to live independently in their homes. We commend Rep. Garret Graves (R-LA), Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL), Rep. Ann McLane Kuster (D-NH), Rep. Kenny Marchant (R-TX), Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-TX), Rep. Ralph Abraham (R-LA), Rep. John Larson (D-CT), Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN) and Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA).
Amedisys looks forward to our continued work with members of both the House and the Senate as this bill progresses and join our industry colleagues in pushing for this bipartisan policy.
