Meghan Markle’s Actual Something Blue Was the Sweetest Touch to Her Wedding

Meghan Markle shares several wedding day secrets in an upcoming documentary about Queen Elizabeth II and the Commonwealth. But one of the biggest revelations about the day was her “something blue,” which was a rather sentimental and swoon-worthy detail related to her love story with Prince Harry.

Several years ago, Markle wore a blue dress on her first date with the then-world’s most eligible bachelor. While most believed the Duchess of Sussex’s something blue to be several other thoughtful touches revealed throughout the day (her blue aquamarine cocktail ring once adorned by Princess Diana for example), Markle revealed her actual ceremony tradition was a piece of fabric from that first date dress.

“Did you see it?” the former Suits star asked in an interview with ITV for the upcoming Queen of the World documentary. “The piece of blue fabric that’s stitched inside? It’s my something blue.”

The duchess requested the sliver of cloth be tucked into her wedding veil, which like her gown was designed by Givenchy creative director Claire Waight Keller. “It’s fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date,” she added.

In the documentary, which will air October 1 on HBO, Markle reunites with her wedding dress for the first time since her May 19 nuptials at Windsor Castle. Her veil also included a custom embroidery of 53 flowers, which symbolically represent the Commonwealth and its 53 countries.
