Meghan Markle's father says she 'ghosted' him in new interview

Thomas Markle has publicly appealed to his daughter and the royal family in an effort to reconcile their estranged relationship.

In a new interview on Good Morning Britain, the Duchess of Sussex’s father told Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid that his daughter has “ghosted” him - but he is “not sure why it’s happening.”

According to Mr Markle, who said he texts Meghan every day, and has even sent letters asking that she responds, he has not “received anything back.”

However, Mr Markle told the hosts that he thinks the lack of communication may be the result of false quotes attributed to him in the press - which he thinks Meghan and Prince Harry may read and believe.

During the 18-minute interview, which he admitted was his fifth, Mr Markle also addressed his daughter directly, in the hopes that she would be watching and hear his pleas.

“I love you very much. You’re my daughter and I’d really like to hear from you,” he said. “Whatever differences we have, we should be able to work them out. We’re family, so please reach out to me.”

In addition to pleading with his daughter, who he also referred to as “controlling,” Mr Markle expressed his wishes for the Queen to do whatever she can to remedy the situation.

“I would appreciate anything she can do and I would think she would want to resolve family problems,” he said. “All families, royal or otherwise, are the same and should be together, certainly around the holidays.”

Despite having no communication with his daughter since her wedding in May, the 74-year-old remains optimistic and defended Meghan against recent allegations that she is difficult to work with and Morgan’s suggestion she is a “social climber."

In response to the questions regarding Meghan’s personality, her father said: “That’s really not a character trait of hers” and that she’s always been “very polite” and “never been rude to anyone.”

Mr Markle concluded his latest interview expressing his hope that his daughter will come around and “reach out in time,” while acknowledging that he did not receive a Christmas card from the royal family.
