Meghan Markle might not wear sleeves, carry clutches, or even have British citizenship yet, but her appearance today at the Commonwealth Youth Forum sent a clear signal that the royal family approves of Prince Harry's fiancée 110%.

As part of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), Wednesday's forum qualifies as extremely high-profile. Meghan's attendance ahead of her marriage into the family struck experts as "highly unusual."

"Clearly the feeling is that she is equipped and ready for the job even before the ring is on her finger,” a former courtier told Vanity Fair. “This is quite unusual. CHOGM is a very important official meeting. It’s quite something for Meghan to be involved."

Representatives and leaders from all 53 Commonwealth countries attend the biennial summit addressing current events with the aim of creating a shared policy. Past CHOGMs have tackled contentious issues like apartheid, military coups, and electoral fraud, so this is no fluffy photo-op.

Queen Elizabeth II recently named Prince Harry as the new Commonwealth Youth Ambassador, and her grandson has already announced his intentions to have Meghan fully involved in the duties. "I am also incredibly grateful that the woman I am about to marry, Meghan, will be joining me in this work, of which she too is hugely excited to take part in," he said earlier this week.

Today, the couple met with young delegates from all over the Commonwealth and chatted about what they've learned in the first three days of the summit. Later this week Meghan will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting’s Women’s Empowerment reception, hosted by U.K. Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson. She will also appear at a reception on Saturday to celebrate the next Invictus Games in Sydney this October.

These important engagements convey Meghan's welcome reception into the royal family - or "the firm" as it's also known - ahead of the wedding on May 19. Her invitation to spend Christmas at Sandringham previously signaled the sovereign's personal approval of the match, but the latest schedule of events only confirms that she gets the thumbs up. With a woman this smart and accomplished, even the Queen is clearly impressed.
