Megyn Kelly Presses Conspiracy Theorist Alex Jones on Sandy Hook Denial

On Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly, the former Fox News anchor pressed conspiracy theorist, Alex Jones, during their controversial interview. There was some backlash leading up to the interview due to Jones’s extreme theories. People were specifically upset that the talk radio host claimed the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was a hoax.

When Kelly read back some of Jones’s quotes on Sandy Hook, he responded by saying, “At that point, and I do think there is some cover-up and some manipulation, that is pretty much what I believed. But then, I was also going into devil’s advocate, but then, we know there are mass shootings and these things happen.” Jones walked the line between saying it could be a hoax and admitting that he was wrong. Kelly commented on Jones skirting the issue by saying, “You’re trying to have it all ways,” then adding, “If you wrongly went out there and said it was a hoax, that’s wrong.”

Kelly Calls Out Jones

When Jones tried changing the topic, Kelly called him out on it. She told him, “When you say parents faked their children’s death, people get very angry.” Jones responded with, “I know, but they don’t get angry about the half million dead Iraqis from sanctions.” Kelly interrupted him by saying, “That’s a dodge,” as in, he was dodging the question. That comment from Kelly clearly upset Jones, who angrily snapped back, “No, no, that’s not a dodge!”

Brokaw’s Comments

While many people thought that a conspiracy theorist like Jones shouldn’t be given the time of day, Tom Brokaw pointed out that we can’t just ignore his hatred anymore. The legendary journalist said, “We cannot disrupt the irrational spread of hate by blindly blaming the other side or by looking away.” Brokaw went on to add, “We cannot allow the agents of hate to go unchallenged and become the imprint of our time. We’ll always have differences, of course, but in our finest moments, we are a republic that thrives when it recognizes common threats and takes them on.”
