First ladies Melania Trump and Brigitte Macron channeled high fashion for the Trumps' first state dinner at the White House-FLOTUS wore a shimmering Chanel haute couture gown while her French counterpart donned custom Louis Vuitton. The decision to sport Parisian labels was a nod to the Trump's guests, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron, president and first lady of France.

After seemingly channeling Scandal in an all-white Michael Kors look earlier in the day (Olivia Pope's white hat included), Melania Trump turned up the wattage at night in a silver sequined dress from the Karl Lagerfeld-helmed fashion house. The sleeveless number featured a beaded boat neckline, a sheer lace chest, pockets, and more glittering, gauzy paneling at the hem.

The look appears to be a variation of this luxe jumpsuit from Chanel's Spring 2018 couture collection, which debuted in Paris in January. Trump accessorized with a pair of silver pumps and skipped the jewelry.

Notably, she was photographed holding her husband's hand throughout the night, perhaps in response to brutally awkward viral video earlier that day, which appeared to show her avoiding PDA with the president.

Macron complimented Trump's silver ensemble in her own metallic-accented look by her go-to label, Vuitton. The cream column dress boasted gold and silver latticework on the chest and sleeves, a matching belt at the waist, and a subtle leg slit on the left side. The French first lady, a budding style icon in her own right, finished off with a gold clutch and baroque-printed pumps.

Indoors, the couples were joined by more guests including model Jerry Hall and her husband Rupert Murdoch, Apple's Tim Cook, Henry Kissinger, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner, USA Today reports.
