Melania Trump had a whirlwind day on Thursday, traveling with her husband, President Trump, to disaster-struck Florida. Then, after taking selfies with fans and serving food with FEMA, the first couple headed home to Washington, D.C., and hosted a black-tie event.

She quickly changed out of what has become her hurricane relief uniform — she wore white jeans and an army-green button-up shirt, and accessorized with reflective aviator sunglasses, a white baseball cap (noticeably missing the FLOTUS embroidery), and Converse sneakers — and into a high-fashion gown.

FLOTUS was outfitted in Monique Lhullier for the event, wearing a gorgeous gray dress with metallic silver detailing that retails for $7,995. The dinner was held in honor of the nonprofit organization founded in 1961 by first lady Jacqueline Kennedy that works to preserve the history of the Executive Mansion.

The first lady made a speech at the dinner, reflecting on her travels with her husband earlier in the day. “Our country has seen the very worst of Mother nature with Hurricanes Harvey and Irma,” she said. “We saw so many who lost so much in these past few weeks. But in those very same people, I have seen the true spirit of this nation: An unwavering commitment to overcome, to rebuild, and to renew what was swept away.”

The country’s recent natural disasters were a focus of the evening. However, both Melania and President Trump reflected on the honor of living in the White House, which carries so much of the country’s history within it.
