Miami QB Malik Rosier's dad had stroke the week before Notre Dame game
Miami quarterback Malik Rosier was understandably distracted as Miami prepared to play Notre Dame.
The Hurricanes quarterback told ESPN.com that his father was admitted to a hospital on Nov. 6 after suffering a stroke.
“It’s one of those things that really changes how you look at life,” Rosier told ESPN. “My life was 8-0 as a quarterback, everything was going fine, and then you get that news and you realize [all that] means so much, but it’s not everything. You have to take account of the people that are in your life and don’t take them for granted.
“I could have woken up Monday morning and lost my dad.”
Rosier’s father, Eli, said he’s doing well and has “85 percent” of the strength back on his left side. He said people noticed he wasn’t looking well when ESPN cameras showed him as Malik played against Virginia Tech on Nov. 4.
That Monday, he collapsed.
Malik Rosier said he didn’t want to tell his coaches that he was thinking about his father and was distracted in the lead-up to the game against the Irish. So his mother informed Mark Richt and his staff.
As you probably know, Miami beat Notre Dame 41-8. Rosier was a big part of that. He was 15-24 for 137 yards passing and a touchdown and had nine carries for 44 yards and a score. The win kept Miami undefeated at 9-0 and moved the Hurricanes up to No. 3 in the College Football Playoff rankings.
Rosier is in his first year as Miami’s starter and is 196-298 passing for 2,410 yards, 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
According to the ESPN report — which you should read in its entirety — Rosier’s father is planning to make the trip to Saturday’s game vs. Virginia as well as the ACC Championship Game vs. Clemson.
