Midday index, ETF option volumes

Total option volume is just 4 million contracts so far today, topped by bullish sentiment in the major indexes and ETFs, according to optionMONSTER data systems.

The SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) has 476,000 options traded, dominated by 474,000 calls. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 212,000, with calls slightly outpacing puts.

The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) has 160,000 contracts changing hands, also with calls outnumbering puts. The CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) is just behind with option volume of 153,000, led by 90,000 calls.

The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) has seen 90,000 options turn over, with 54,000 puts. And the PowerShares QQQ Trust (QQQ) has 64,000 options traded, evenly split between calls and puts.
