Midday index, ETF option volumes

Option volume picks up the pace today as 6.4 million contracts have changed hands, with the big indexes and ETFs leading the action.
 
Just over 1 million options trade in the SPDR S&P 500 Fund (:SPY) with a put/call ratio of 2 to 1. Next up are the S&P 500 Index (:SPX) options at 340,000, with 208,000 puts. Following closely are the CBOE Volatility Index (:VIX) contracts at 321,000, with calls outpacing puts by 2 to 1. The iShares Russell 2000 Fund (IWM) rounds out the top four with volume of 206,000 options, also with a 2-to-1 put/call ratio.

The PowerShares QQQ Trust (:QQQ) has 180,000 options, with slightly more puts than calls. The iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (VXX) has 115,000 contracts turning over, also with put slightly outpacing calls. And the SPDR Financial Fund (XLF) has 94,000 options moving, dominated by 83,000 puts.
