Midokura Enters the Market With Disruptive Approach to Network Virtualization

Global Company Introduces MidoNet, Complete Overlay Network Virtualization Solution for IaaS

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 15, 2012) - OpenStack Summit -- Midokura, a global startup focused on network virtualization, officially entered the U.S. market today. The company also introduced MidoNet, a distributed, de-centralized, multi-layer software defined virtual network solution specifically designed for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).

MidoNet virtualizes the network stack for popular cloud platforms such as OpenStack®. Midokura's approach not only adds automation that significantly reduces the human cost (OPEX) of managing the network, but also impacts the overall economics of cloud computing (CAPEX) by simplifying network requirements.

Midokura Disrupts the Network Virtualization Market
Midokura was co-founded in January 2010 by CEO Tatsuya Kato and CTO Dan Mihai Dumitriu. The company assembled a strong, global technical team from Amazon, DreamHost, Fulcrum Microsystems, Google, NEC and NTT, and has research credentials from Cornell, EPFL, and Stanford.

"We originally set out to build a public cloud in Japan, but quickly realized there were still networking challenges to overcome," explained Dan Mihai Dumitriu, co-founder and CTO of Midokura. "Operating an efficient cloud required a whole new way of thinking around how network services should be built. Our team is uniquely qualified to disrupt IaaS networking, and two years in, MidoNet is ahead of the market."

MidoNet is a distributed, de-centralized, multi-layer software defined virtual network solution for IaaS. By taking an overlay-based approach to network virtualization, MidoNet sits on top of any IP-connected network, and pushes the network intelligence to the edge of the network, in software.

MidoNet Integrates with OpenStack
MidoNet virtualizes network functionality for IaaS cloud management systems such as OpenStack. Announcing its first IaaS integration today at the OpenStack Summit, MidoNet is tightly integrated with OpenStack Essex, and provides a Quantum plugin as well as Nova network drivers for full virtual network functionality with OpenStack clouds.

Midokura is a proud member of the OpenStack community, a global collaboration of developers and cloud computing technologists producing the open source cloud computing platform for public and private clouds. Midokura is a sponsor and presenter at this week's OpenStack Summit, October 15-18, 2012 in San Diego.
