From Car and Driver

  • Mini is relaunching a Sidewalk Edition for the 2021 model year, based on the Cooper S convertible.

  • The ragtop model will be offered in either Deep Laguna Metallic or Enigmatic Black Metallic exterior colors and sports a gray-patterned softtop.

  • Cool scissors-spoke wheels, touchscreen navigation, a head-up display, and a Harman/Kardon stereo system are among the Sidewalk's standard features.

In the current social-distancing world in which we find ourselves, Mini's latest Sidewalk Edition of the 2021 Cooper S convertible feels like a breath of fresh air. The previous Sidewalk Edition convertible dates back to 2007; this new one pays homage by sporting the same Sidewalk logo across the exterior and interior of the car.

Buyers can choose from Deep Laguna Metallic (shown in photos here) or Enigmatic Black Metallic for the exterior color; both come with a patterned soft top with a distinctive gray chevron pattern. Inside, dark-gray leather upholstery is accented by a lime-green stripe down the center of each of the seats, while the Sidewalk logo adorns the doorjamb protection plates and the leather-wrapped steering wheel.

A host of desirable standard equipment will make the Sidewalk Edition an attractive proposition. A set of 17-inch "scissor spoke" wheels are unique to the Sidewalk Edition, and Mini is making popular tech items such as in-dash navigation, a head-up display, and a Harman/Kardon stereo system standard. Heated seats, SiriusXM satellite radio, and automatic climate control are also standard luxury items.

Pricing starts at $39,250. Mini says tSidewalk Edition cars will begin arriving at U.S. dealerships in April. The Sidewalk Edition models will come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, but a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is available and will cost $1500 extra.
