An Albertan cultural project is the final recipient for the third round of funding

GATINEAU, QC, Nov. 16, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - Canadian cultural industries are in demand around the world, and the Government of Canada is committed to helping them reach their full global potential. The Creative Export Canada program helps our cultural industries meet this international demand, allowing them share their talent and creativity with the world.

Today, the Honorable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage, announced the final recipient for the third cohort of the Creative Export Canada program, Alberta's Byta Internet. This project entails a platform that enables users to send and receive digital audio in a clean, simple and secure way. Byta will create several new business and networking opportunities and will introduce, develop, and expand its brand into three new international target markets: the USA, Australia and Brazil.

This funding follows three announcements this month of a total of $7,945,400 to be awarded as part of the third cohort for the Creative Export Canada program. The third round of Creative Export Canada funding includes 16 separate cultural projects from across Canada that represent a variety of different cultural industries, including the audiovisual, interactive digital media, music, publishing, visual art and design industries.

Exporting is vitally important to Canada's creative industries. Canadian Heritage's Creative Export Canada program helps Canadian industries attain their international goals and promote Canadian works abroad. By helping Canadian creators shine internationally, Canadians see the benefits at home as they bring with them significant economic benefits, creating jobs and fostering social prosperity. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the various economic impacts felt by cultural industries, the program gave all eligible applicants the opportunity to adjust or modify their proposal after having submitted them for the March 11, 2020 deadline.

The Creative Export Canada program offers funding to Canadian organizations for projects that generate export revenues and features Canadian creative content. Its mission is to increase the visibility of Canadian creative works on the international market and help increase the profitability of exports from Canada's creative industries.

In 2016, Canada exported $16 billion in creative products, which amounts to 2.5 percent of Canada's total exports.

The arts and culture sector creates more than 650,000 direct jobs and countless spin-off jobs. It also accounts for 2.7 percent of Canada's overall gross domestic product.

Canada's Creative Export Strategy, including the new Creative Export Canada funding program, gives businesses and organizations in the creative sector the tools and mechanisms they need to successfully export their creative content. In this way, the government is helping Canada's creative sector shine on the world stage.

Since the creation of Creative Export Canada in 2018, 48 creative industry organizations have received a total of $25,784,963.

Canadian Heritage is currently accepting applications for new funding under the Creative Export Canada program. The application deadline is November 25, 2020, for projects starting between April 1, 2021, and March 31, 2022.

The project: Export Guru Studio's projects and services to global broadcasters, distributors, retailers, game platforms and audiences around the world by securing funding for original productions, expanding licensing opportunities and developing new creative partnerships.

KNIX WEAR

The company: High-tech Canadian intimate design and manufacturing company that specializes in fabrics with moisture wicking capabilities, including stylish designs and with a mission to inspire women.

The project: Increasing the digital presence of Canadian-made fashion designs through investing in brand awareness, marketing material, and a public relations launch event, in order to generate sales revenues with their reinvented intimates.
