'A Minneapolis Miracle': Vikings radio call of Stefon Diggs' TD is both hectic and epic

Radio and TV calls of famous plays can go in a variety of different directions. The best have some combination of accurate description and incoherent enthusiasm. That’s exactly what Paul Allen and Pete Bercich produced on the Minnesota Vikings’ radio network when Stefon Diggs stunned the New Orleans’ Saints on the final play of an NFC Divisional Playoff game.

And the truly great, memorable calls organically coin monikers for the play in question. Allen came through in that sense as well.

Here’s Allen’s call, set to footage of the play:

“Case on a deep drop. Steps up in the pocket. He’ll fire to the right side, caught by Diggs OH HE GOT LOOSE …”

Meanwhile, Allen’s broadcast partner, Bercich (a former Vikings linebacker and coach), can’t help but scream over him: “Stay in bounds — OH MY GOD. NO WAY. [SCREAMS].”

Allen: “At the 30! 10! Touchdown! Are you kidding me!?! It’s a Minneapolis miracle! Stefon Diggs and the Minnesota Vikings have walked off on the New Orleans Saints! It’s a 61-yard Minneapolis miracle!”

The Minneapolis miracle. That’s surely how the play will be remembered by history. It’s perfect. And Allen will forever be associated with it.

On the other hand, here are stunned Saints broadcasters Jim Henderson (play-by-play) and former Saints running back Deuce McAllister (color) relaying heartbreak to all of New Orleans:
