Minnesota West to celebrate Lady Jays season next week
Mar. 24—WORTHINGTON — Minnesota West Community and Technical College will host a community celebration for its Lady Jays women's basketball team that finished runner-up in the National Junior College Athletic Association DIII tournament.
Lady Jays fans are invited to the Center for Health and Wellness on the Worthington campus of Minnesota West on Wednesday, March 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A program is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Attendants will have a photo opportunity with their favorite Lady Jays.
The Lady Jays finished their season with a 30-5 record. Three of the Lady Jays came to RCTC, including the ultimate matchup in the NJCAA DIII championship matchup. The Lady Jays set school records for wins (30) in a season and points (124) scored in a game this season.
Graduating from the Lady Jays women's basketball team are sophomores Tia Murray, Dannyn Peterson, and Madisyn Huisman. The sophomores went to the national tournament in back-to-back years for Minnesota West.
Freshman Olivia Hayenga led the NJCAA DIII in total points with 680 points for the Lady Jays and was ninth in points per game with 19.4. Murray was second in the NJCAA DIII in total points with 587 and 24th in points per game with 16.8.
The season was coach Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka's eighth season in the position. Hayenga-Hostikka has a career 133-82 record.
