Major League Baseball is investigating the Houston Astros after a man affiliated with the team appeared to be shooting video of the Boston Red Sox during Game 1 of the American League Championship Series. The incident took place Saturday night in Boston. According to the Boston Metro, which first reported the story, a man claiming to be an Astros employee was removed from the media-credentialed area next to the Red Sox dugout. The man, who did not have a credential, had a small camera and was texting frequently, per the report. Security was tipped off to the man by the Cleveland Indians, according to multiple reports. A separate report from Yahoo Sports identified the man as Kyle McLaughlin and says he aimed a cell phone into the Indians' dugout during their Game 3 loss to the Astros in the AL Division Series. McLaughlin was removed by security in Cleveland and Boston, according to the report. The Indians were swept by the Astros in the ALDS. McLaughlin is not listed as an Astros employee and is reportedly connected with team owner Jim Crane. MLB told the Metro the matter is being handled internally. The incident isn't expected to amount to anything more than a fine for Houston, according to a report from ESPN. According to ESPN, the Astros were using the man to monitor the Red Sox and make sure they weren't doing anything outside the rules. "I'm aware of something going on, but I haven't been briefed," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said after his team lost 8-2 in Houston in Game 3 on Tuesday. "I'm worried about the game." Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who served as bench coach for the Astros last season, also addressed the topic. "Somebody mentioned (it) to me right now. That's an MLB issue," Cora said. "They'll do what they have to do. But I just heard today." The Yahoo Sports report adds the Astros were suspected of stealing signs by the Oakland Athletics during a series in late August and by the Los Angeles Dodgers during last year's World Series, which Houston won in Game 7. The Astros trail the Red Sox 2-1 in their best-of-7 ALCS. --Field Level Media
