Anyone who's ever watched a movie (or, you know, read a book) knows that the mansion featured in the The Great Gatsby might be the most luxe, extravagant, and jaw-dropping piece of property in existence-and that's all without including Leonardo DiCaprio as its owner.
How much would this impressive piece of real estate go for in real life? What about a one night's stay as an Airbnb rental? Empire Today, a home furnishing company, imagined Jay Gatsby's West Egg estate as an Airbnb-and they didn't disappoint.
The company mocked up the home as an Airbnb listing-appropriately titled, "You'll Be The Life Of The Party While Staying In This New York Mansion!"-the listing reveals that the massive home has 13 bedrooms and eight and a half bathrooms...and would be worth around $5,200 just to stay the night.
While the price seems steep, think about it: With all of the parties you could host in it, you'd definitely be able to charge an entrance fee at the door for the payment. And if you fill each and every one of the 13 bedrooms with two people? You could all be paying as little as $200 each for the night.
And, when you consider that the actual mansion that inspired the one in Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of the novel went on the market in 2017 for a whopping $85 million, somehow, $5,200/night seems...almost...reasonable? (Though that one DID have 18 rooms and a hair salon inside.)
The fictional home sits on 40 acres of land and includes a private beach, tennis courts, and a perfect view of that green blinking light across the water. Massive parties not included-those you'll have to throw on your own.
