How Much Are Zumiez Inc. (NASDAQ:ZUMZ) Insiders Taking Off The Table?

In this article:

We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Zumiez Inc. (NASDAQ:ZUMZ).

What Is Insider Buying?

Most investors know that it is quite permissible for company leaders, such as directors of the board, to buy and sell stock in the company. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.

We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

Zumiez Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The President of North America, Troy Brown, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$557k worth of shares at a price of US$27.59 each. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$23.29. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

Over the last year, we note insiders sold 31437 shares worth US$859k. Zumiez insiders didn't buy any shares over the last year.
