Barry Rosenstein’s JANA Partners revealed new positions in 2Q14. JANA saw the value of its U.S. long portfolio surge from $8.5 billion in 1Q14 to $16 billion in 2Q14. In this series, we’ll go through the main positions that were traded in the second quarter.

New positions included FMC Corp. (FMC) and Charter Communications (CHTR). The quarter also saw the fund taking activist positions in Apache Corp. (or APA) and PetSmart (or PETM). JANA sold its positions in SiriusXM (SIRI), Juniper Networks (JNPR), and Golar LNG (GLNG). Other notable exits were positions in Outerwall (or OUTR) and Teva Pharmaceutical (or TEVA). Main position increases were in Actavis, American International Group, and Mallinckrodt. A Newswire report noted that the fund saw a 1.3% loss in July while the JANA Nirvana fund saw a 1.7% loss.
