NASA builds deep space habitats on Earth

In order to prepare for further exploration into space, NASA plans to build full scale deep space habitats…right here on Earth.

There will be six partners in NASA’s NextSTEP program with each one focusing on a different prototype. The habitat prototypes will each feature individual characteristics, including expandability, long-term mission simulation, integrated avionics, and flexible architecture.

One even aims to turn the upper portion of a launch vehicle into a suitable space to live and work.

These prototypes will ensure our astronauts will stay safe and adequately supplied during extended stays in deep space.

Hopefully, these habitats will also help bring our astronauts closer to Mars in the near future.
