National Fuel Gas cutting Pa. rates 6.7 percent

ERIE, Pa. (AP) -- About 209,000 customers of National Fuel Gas Distribution Corp. in northwestern Pennsylvania will see a rate decrease this quarter after two straight quarterly increases.

The Buffalo, N.Y.-based utility says the 6.7 percent decrease effective Friday will cut the bill of the typical customer — one using 90,000 cubic feet of gas annually — by $5.16 a month. Such a customer will pay $71.45, down from $76.61, the company said.

The company says the decrease is driven by falling gas prices driven by increasing yields from Marcellus Shale wells.

National Fuel Gas serves customers in 14 northwestern Pennsylvania counties.
