NBA Player Dwight Howard Lists Washington, D.C., Penthouse for $2.475 Million
After his move from the Washington Wizards to the Los Angeles Lakers last summer, NBA star Dwight Howard is officially ready to part ways with his home in the capital. The athlete recently listed his sprawling Washington, D.C., penthouse with Sotheby’s for $2.475 million.
The 10,134-square-foot two-story loft occupies the top two floors of the historic Pierce School building, a former schoolhouse built in 1893 that was converted into nine residential units in 2012. Many of the school’s original features, including chalkboards, lockers, and cubbies, were retained and incorporated into the penthouse’s infrastructure in fun, innovative ways by German designer Adolf Cluss.
The building's traditional redbrick exterior gives way to a slightly more modern interior, featuring exposed brick, clean white walls, and dark polished hardwood floors. The centerpiece of the penthouse is undoubtedly the two-story lofted living room space, which features a towering exposed brick fireplace and a sunny wet bar, as well as a set of industrial-looking stairs with glass railings leading up to the second floor. A more casual combination living and dining area elsewhere in the home similarly features high ceilings, as well as blackboards that adorn the walls.
The kitchen is blessed with tons of natural light, and boasts industrial-grade stainless-steel appliances, as well as a 20-foot-long marble-topped center island with counter seating. The unit features five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms total; the master suite is the only bedroom located on the main floor. It features a massive built-in closet, plus a master bathroom with two separate industrial vanities and a marble steam shower with a custom fish tank.
On the upper level is a massage room, which Howard reportedly had installed, and there's also a home theater in the dwelling. A private roof deck patio is accessible via a steel staircase, offering up panoramic views of the city, and building amenities include a full gym, a 40,000-gallon black-bottom swimming pool, and a hot tub. The power forward and center also has homes in Florida and Los Angeles, and recently listed a 35,000-square-foot mansion in Atlanta for $8.8 million.
