Neb. county OKs permit for $138 million wind farm

Nebraska county approves special permit for proposed $138 million wind farm

BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) -- The Gage County Board of Supervisors has approved a special use permit to allow a proposed $138 million wind farm in southeast Nebraska that straddles the county line with Jefferson County.

The board unanimously approved the measure Wednesday for the Steele Flats Wind Farm, and it follows a special use permit approval by the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners.

Florida-based NextEra Energy Resources, the project's developer, must now finalize a decommissioning plan for the board and seek construction permits.

The 75 megawatt wind farm is expected to be operational by the end of the year. It will include 32 wind turbines in Jefferson County and 12 in Gage County.
