JOHANNESBURG (AP) _ Net 1 UEPS Technologies Inc. (UEPS) on Thursday reported a fiscal third-quarter loss of $54.8 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Johannesburg-based company said it had a loss of 96 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 62 cents per share.

The payments company posted revenue of $86.5 million in the period.

The company's shares closed at $3.74. A year ago, they were trading at $8.58.
