Netflix’s ‘A Christmas Prince’ Gets a Royal Wedding Sequel: Watch the Trailer
If you’re suffering from major withdrawal following the fanfare of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding from May, Netflix has heard your cries just in time for the holiday season with A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding.
Following last year’s seasonal hit, the much-anticipated sequel ofA Christmas Prince will pick up from the final moments of the movie, where journalist (Rose McIver) and her prince Richard (Ben Lamb) are seen planning their wedding.
On Thursday, Netflix released the first trailer for the sequel ahead of its release on November 30, and the two-and-a-half minute clip reveals that life for Amber, the future Queen of Aldovia, is far from smooth sailing.
“Loyal readers,” she intones as she types up a blog post a la Sex and the City’s resident shoe-loving columnist Carrie Bradshaw. “It’s been 349 days since I said yes to the love of my life, Richard Bevin Charlton, King of Aldovia. Somehow, through all this insanity, I’m still me … even though I’m about to be queen of a small country.”
Evidently, she’s about to be challenged. In the sequel, Amber is urged to adapt to the royal family’s more traditional ways even when they clash with her more modern ways of thinking, and that friction gives way to plenty of drama leading up to her Christmas wedding to Prince Richard.
“Their plans are jeopardized when Amber finds herself second-guessing whether or not she’s cut out to be queen, and Richard is faced with a political crisis that threatens to tarnish not only the holiday season, but the future of the kingdom,” according to a release.
In the trailer, Amber struggles with everything from trying to push for a more modern wedding dress (“I’m looking for something a little more contemporary,” she says with her face hidden behind a veil) to continuing her blog, something the royal family forbids (sound familiar, Meghan Markle?).
“Life in a fishbowl takes getting used to,” she says at one point.
Part Princess Diaries, part Bridget Jones’s Diary, and all parts sappy, holiday fun, A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding will premiere on Netflix Nov. 30. Watch the trailer above.
