Netflix trailer for Trigger Warning with Killer Mike released

Netflix has released the trailer for its new series Trigger Warning with Killer Mike.

Pitched as a “subversive comedy documentary”, the six-episode show will follow the Run the Jewels rapper as he seeks to explore both the subversive and the unexpected.

According to a statement from Mike, the show is “about examining cultural taboos and giving viewers the space to examine the ‘what ifs’ and ‘why nots ’ that limit how some people move and operate in the world. In six episodes, we explore the human condition using nontraditional approaches.”

“Not everyone will agree with my methods (and some of what we’re putting out is fucking crazy),” he added. “but this show is about embracing your freedom to challenge societal expectations and conformity. This show is if an anarchist determined the status quo.”

Earlier this year, the rapper apologised for a controversial interview with NRATV — the National Rifle Association’s television channel — in which he defended black gun ownership and criticised National Walkout Day.

“I took a leaf out of one of my hero’s book, Martin Luther King, the founder of Kingian nonviolence, and sat with people I may not always agree with,” he said in a series of videos, posted to social media.

“I’m sorry that an interview I did about a minority — black people in this country — and gun rights was used as a weapon against [March For Our Lives]. That was unfair to you and it was wrong, and it disparaged some very noble work you’re doing.”

He continued: “My interview — with said organisation who we all don’t agree with — was suppose to be something that continued the conversation… and that conversation is about African-American gun ownership… I support the march, and I support black people owning guns. It’s possible to do both.”

Trigger Warning with Killer Mike is set to debut on Netflix on 18 January.
