THE DEALS: GM sweetened its deals on pickup trucks in December in an effort to reduce a growing inventory. It's offering up to $9,000 off remaining 2012 models and close to $4,500 off 2013s.
THE REASON: General Motors cut discounts last month, which hurt sales of the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickup trucks. At the end of November, Chevy dealers had a 138-day supply of Silverados, more than double the optimal number.
THE RESULTS: GM dealers and executives say trucks are selling well this month, and that should reduce the supply at dealers to a more normal level.
