NextEra call sale sees limited gains

NextEra Energy hit all-time highs after reporting earnings yesterday morning, but one trader apparently believes that further gains will be limited through the end of the year.

optionMONSTER systems detected the sale of 2,600 December 115 calls for $0.75 yesterday. This is a new position, as there was no previous open interest in the strike before trade appeared.

These options may have been sold naked with an initial bearish bias, but is it is more likely that they were traded against long shares in a covered-call position . The latter would be bullish up to the $115 strike price but not beyond. (See our Education section)

NEE rose 1.92 points yesterday to close at $99.85 after reaching a record high of $101.50 in the morning. The electricity producer's shares have climbed steadily since trading around the $82 level last December.
