LONDON (AP) _ Noble Corp. (NE) on Wednesday reported a loss of $81.6 million in its third quarter.
On a per-share basis, the London-based company said it had a loss of 33 cents. Losses, adjusted for pretax gains, came to 43 cents per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 47 cents per share.
The offshore drilling contractor posted revenue of $279.4 million in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $258.9 million.
Noble Corp. shares have climbed 12 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased slightly more than 1 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $5.06, a climb of 22 percent in the last 12 months.
