BASEL, Switzerland (AP) _ Novartis AG (NVS) on Thursday reported third-quarter earnings of $1.62 billion.

On a per-share basis, the Basel, Switzerland-based company said it had profit of 69 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $1.31 per share.

The results met Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was also for earnings of $1.31 per share.

The drugmaker posted revenue of $12.78 billion in the period.

Novartis shares have climbed roughly 2 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has dropped 1 percent in the last 12 months.
