Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. But as Warren Buffett has mused, 'If you've been playing poker for half an hour and you still don't know who the patsy is, you're the patsy.' When they buy such story stocks, investors are all too often the patsy.
So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Finolex Industries (NSE:FINOLEXIND). While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business than can consistently produce it. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.
Finolex Industries's Earnings Per Share Are Growing.
If you believe that markets are even vaguely efficient, then over the long term you'd expect a company's share price to follow its earnings per share (EPS). Therefore, there are plenty of investors who like to buy shares in companies that are growing EPS. Over the last three years, Finolex Industries has grown EPS by 13% per year. That growth rate is fairly good, assuming the company can keep it up.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. While we note Finolex Industries's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 13% to ₹31b. That's a real positive.

Are Finolex Industries Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
I like company leaders to have some skin in the game, so to speak, because it increases alignment of incentives between the people running the business, and its true owners. So it is good to see that Finolex Industries insiders have a significant amount of capital invested in the stock. To be specific, they have ₹3.4b worth of shares. That shows significant buy-in, and may indicate conviction in the business strategy. That amounts to 5.4% of the company, demonstrating a degree of high-level alignment with shareholders.
Should You Add Finolex Industries To Your Watchlist?
One important encouraging feature of Finolex Industries is that it is growing profits. Just as polish makes silverware pop, the high level of insider ownership enhances my enthusiasm for this growth. That combination appeals to me, for one. So yes, I do think the stock is worth keeping an eye on. Now, you could try to make up your mind on Finolex Industries by focusing on just these factors, or you could also consider how its price-to-earnings ratio compares to other companies in its industry.
