NSB man charged with attempted murder in stabbing

A 53-year-old man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in the stabbing of another man in New Smyrna Beach, according to a press release.

Police arrested Buddy E. Collins after the stabbing, which occurred about 8:37 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Mary Avenue, the release stated.

The victim suffered multiple stab wounds and other injuries and was admitted to the intensive care unit of an unnamed hospital, according to the release. Police did not provide the victim's name, which was withheld under Marsy's Law.

When police arrived at the scene, Collins spontaneously admitted to striking and stabbing the victim, claiming it was self-defense, the release stated.

After an investigation, police arrested Collins and took him to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he was being held without bond on the charge of attempted first-degree murder.
