BURLINGTON, Mass. (AP) _ Nuance Communications Inc. (NUAN) on Wednesday reported fiscal second-quarter net income of $77.3 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Burlington, Massachusetts-based company said it had profit of 27 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 20 cents per share.
The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 25 cents per share.
The voice and language technology company posted revenue of $409.6 million in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $411.2 million, also missing Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $444.9 million.
Nuance Communications shares have risen 27% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $16.75, an increase of 10% in the last 12 months.
