NYFW 2017: Pamella Roland Spring 2018 collection
It would be difficult to amass the sheer elegance of Pamella Roland's Spring 2018 collection, but if we had to describe it in one word, it would be "ethereal." The ready-to-wear line, which debuted the first day of New York Fashion Week, emits a balance of elegance and beauty, along with a vintage edge.
Attended by fashion-enthusiasts such as Aly Raisman and Olivia Culpo, the show was a stunning kickoff to a week of high fashion.
The inspiration for the designer's new collection lies in the iconic Grace Kelly, who notably loved lace, tulle and pearls. Roland's creations were reminiscent of Kelly's graceful style, including an array of off-the-shoulder ensembles, gowns accented with underlying layers of sheer tulle, and outfits garnished with pearls and textured florals.
Another one of Roland's inspirations for the collection lies in the state of Monaco itself. "Everything is just beautiful there. The cars, the buildings, the people—my customer wants beautiful, over-the-top gowns, and that's the place where you're going to see them," the creative said to Vogue backstage.
Roland delivered those attributes, particularly in the last few pieces of the collection. With mass amounts of tulle, feathered jewelry and flair, ombre additions and detailed embroidery, Roland brought those "over-the-top" looks to life on the New York City runway.
Our favorite of the collection includes Roland's end-of-show masterpiece, a one-shouldered blue-and-white ombre ensemble that features a structured waistline and bouffant bodice. It's no doubt a sophisticated creation that the Princess of Monaco would have embraced today.
