While home alone with her younger sibling, a 14-year-old girl from Springfield Township was stabbed multiple times for refusing sex with an older man she met online, according to police.
Oakland County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 6000 block of North Bay in Springfield Township shortly after midnight on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Oakland County's Sheriff's Office. The juvenile victim was found on the floor of the residence, bleeding from several stab wounds to her back and midsection.
Police said the suspect is an 18-year-old man from Monmouth, Illinois — whom the victim met on a social media website, according to her statement. The suspect discussed coming to Michigan to visit her but became violent when she refused intercourse upon his arrival.
The victim is in critical but stable condition; she was scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday morning.
The victim's younger sibling was asleep and her parents were not home when the stabbing took place. Although seriously injured, she was able to call her parents, who then rushed home and called 911.
The suspect was arrested early Wednesday after fleeing the scene and calling 911 himself. He spoke with Waterford Township police, who responded to the suspect's location and arrested him.
The suspect was then turned over to detectives, to whom he admitted that he was angry with the girl for not having sex with him and therefore assaulted her with an 8-inch knife that he purchased on Tuesday in White Lake Township.
"Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are presenting the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office and seeking attempted murder charges against the suspect," according to the release. "He is being held in the Oakland County Jail pending arraignment."
