Office Depot names Michael J. Massey new board member to succeed Brenda Gaines

NEW YORK (AP) -- Office Depot Inc. said Monday that it has nominated Michael J. Massey to join its board.

Massey, who had been chief executive and president of Payless ShoeSource parent Collective Brands Inc., fills the vacancy created by the current director Brenda Gaines. Gaines has informed the board of her decision not to stand for re-election at this year's annual stockholders' meeting, set for Aug. 21

"Michael is a highly qualified industry veteran who brings over 23 years of significant retail experience to our board, having served in numerous senior level roles at Collective Brands and The May Department Stores Co.," said Neil Austrian, chairman and CEO of Office Depot in a statement.

The office supplies chain, based in Boca Raton, Fla., operates 1,628 stores. Its shares added 3 cents to $4.17 in afternoon trading.
