The end of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has always been greatly exaggerated. For the past forty years, Western policymakers and scholars have focused on predicting the demise of OPEC while ignoring the more urgent question of where the world’s economic interests are really rooted — in a dismantled OPEC or in suitable structural adjustments.
