Ortiz won't replace Miller for Joshua fight

Luis Ortiz won’t be the man replacing Jarrell Miller in the ring for Anthony Joshua’s fight on 1 June.

The Cuban’s promoter accused Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn of using Ortiz as a gimmick.

Joshua had been due to fight Miller at Madison Square Garden in New York, however after returning an “adverse finding” in a drugs test, the undefeated American was denied a licence.

King Kong Boxing, who represent Ortiz, said on Instagram "We just received news from promoter that it's a no-go and it was all a gimmick and Hearn's low-ball offers will not be accepted".

"No contract even ever got sent so sorry to all the loyal fans. Luis really wanted this title shot."

Ortiz has only one blemish on his record, having lost just once in 32 fights to WBC champion Deontay Wilder in 2018.

It’s believed that Joshua’s new opponent will be announced this week with Hearn saying the Briton’s preparations continue.
