Pa. Supreme Court Issues New Congressional Map

[caption id="attachment_11247" align="alignnone" width="620"]

Pennsylvania's previous congressional map, which the state Supreme Court deemed unconstitutional Jan. 22. Photo courtesy of state of Pennsylvania.[/caption] After the legislature and governor failed to come to an agreement on a new congressional map under a tight deadline, and with tensions between the state Supreme Court and the General Assembly running high, the court issued a new map Monday. In its per curiam decision, the court said the map “draws heavily upon the submissions provided by the parties, intervenors, and amici.” Like the Jan. 22 decision to invalidate the previous map, Monday's ruling again drew dissents from Chief Justice Thomas Saylor, Justice Sallie Updyke Mundy and Justice Max Baer.
