SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwired - Apr 23, 2014) - Parchment, a leading technology company which streamlines the request, delivery and sharing of verified credentials, has unveiled College Match, a new online tool that personalizes the application process by helping students discover a variety of colleges nationwide. College Match evaluates students' credentials, test scores, interests and preferences to reveal a wide set of college options all over the country and allows students to be well-positioned to select a school based on their statistical odds of admission.
Students are applying to more out-of-state colleges at a higher rate, but may not have the knowledge beyond their regional schools to discover the possibilities that await them. According to Parchment's student-reported data, more than half of college applicants submitted applications to out-of-state institutions this year alone. Simultaneously, a larger trend shows that students are applying to more colleges out of fear that they will not be accepted, making colleges more selective with their admissions* and in turn pressuring students to apply to even more schools to feel they have a chance to be admitted.
"Students should know there are a number of exceptional colleges to consider around the nation. While elite colleges are becoming more selective in their admissions process, College Match is a great resource for students in exploring new comparable options," said Matthew Pittinsky, CEO of Parchment. "Our new online tool helps students broaden their horizons to discover and find these exceptional alternatives to build a balanced application list, thus increasing their chances of getting into one or more favorable colleges."
Parchment's College Match tool enables students to think more strategically about their college choices, rather than applying to as many schools as possible to ensure they are accepted. Using a proprietary algorithm, College Match gathers and analyzes a wide set of user-reported data such as GPA, SAT/ACT scores, educational background and students' desired colleges and universities. The tool then converts the data into an extensive list of recommendations, allowing students to look beyond the schools they know to discover similar colleges across the nation for which they can apply. For example, a student who is interested in UC Berkley and USC may find he may also be interested and eligible for NYU, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo or University of Washington.
To use College Match, students need only complete three simple steps:
Share a little background.
- The student registers for the new online tool by providing contact information, reported and unweighted GPA, current grade level, state of residence and GPA and SAT/ACT scores for math, writing and science.
Enter college lists and preferences.
- Next, the student highlights their educational experience and previously-attended schools as well as identifies and lists colleges they are interested in attending.
Experience College Match.
- Students can then fully experience College Match by viewing a list of recommended colleges for which may be a good fit and view their chances of getting into each based on their data and background. Additionally, they can explore and compare similar student-reported GPA or SAT/ACT scores and see where they land in the spectrum of college application and acceptance, and also view school graduation rates to help them make the most informed decisions about which college to select.
College Match is the newest addition to Parchment's portfolio of educational online tools and resources which helps students along the college application process by arming them with reliable information to advance their academic lives.
College Match and its proprietary algorithm have been developed by Parchment's in-house data scientists. The online tool is now available at no cost. For more information about College Match and to explore Parchment's educational resources, visit Parchment.com.
