While Aquaman was a baffling blend of unbelievable weirdness – shark riding, percussion octopuses – it made an absolute stack at the box office ($1.14 billion), and thus ensuring a sequel.

Now Patrick Wilson, who played furrowed villain Orm Marius, aka Ocean Master, has given us an update on how it's all coming along.

“Yeah! I’m slightly briefed,” he said when asked by THR if he's been speaking to director James Wan about the sequel.

“Of course, I want to know everything, but I also have a great respect for him and the process to know that I’m okay staying out of it until it’s late in the game.

“Sometimes, there’s so much information that I don’t ask because I don’t want to know, and I don’t want him to go, 'I can’t tell you that yet.' I just throw a little dart here and there. I’ll say, ‘So, what about this?' and he’ll say, ‘Well, this is what I’m thinking.’

“But, we talk a lot... I can tell you that even his concepts for Aquaman 2 are pushing it even further. Whatever that means. I have a few ideas of where Orm fits in, but I’m not gonna talk about them.”

Further than drum-beating cephalopods? Bagpipe squid perhaps?

Such was the success of Aquaman, which found Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa as the half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry, it surpassed all previous DC movie records.

It became the highest-grossing movie based on a DC property, beating previous record holder, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises from 2012.

The movie was also the fifth highest grossing movie of 2018.

It was also announced in March this year that a 'horror-tinged' spin-off, called The Trench, focussing on the terrifying creatures of the Kingdom of the Trench, faced by Arthur and Amber Heard's Mera in the first movie.

Aquaman 2 is currently slated for release on December 16, 2022.
