PEN Inc.'s HALO Surface Cleaner Proven Effective Against MERS, H1N1 and Ebola Virus

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL--(Marketwired - September 10, 2015) - PEN Inc. (PENC) ("PEN" or "the Company"), a global leader in enhanced performance products enabled by nanotechnology to solve everyday problems, today announced that its environmentally friendly HALO™ product can help prevent the spread of viruses that cause Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), H1N1 (Swine Flu) and Ebola.

Independent tests executed by qualified antimicrobial test laboratories (modified ASTM E1053) against a surrogate of the MERS virus called Human Corona Virus 229E found that the HALO product safely kills the virus within 10 minutes of contact time. At the PEN Design Center in Austin, TX, the HALO surface cleaner has been proven to protect against an H1N1 surrogate virus and Feline Calicivirus (an Ebola surrogate) using the same qualified antimicrobial test laboratories (modified JIS Z 2801 and modified ASTM E1053, respectively).

Unlike common household cleaners on the market today, the HALO product will not expose the hands, lungs, eyes and nose to pesticides which are the active ingredients in disinfectants. PEN does not believe individuals or their pets need to be exposed to pesticides in order to keep surfaces free of disease.

"The recent MERS outbreak in Saudi Arabia is yet another example of the serious health issues that stem from the spread of germs and disease by contact," said Dr. Scott Rickert, PEN's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "Our HALO product addresses this problem without exposing workers and the general public to toxic fumes or caustic chemicals. I believe this is the world's first cleaner and fortifier to capitalize on the natural properties of copper ions. People have known for centuries the disease fighting properties of copper, and this is another application of this natural compound. The HALO product is easy to use and long lasting -- ideal for use in the hospitality, tourism and travel industries, and anywhere large groups of people are exposed to health risks."

About HALO
The HALO surface cleaner, protector and fortifier uses the natural antimicrobial properties of copper minerals at the nanometer scale to clean and protect surfaces against bacteria, germs and viruses without the need for harsh chemicals, disinfectants and pesticides. Test results show that regular use of the HALO cleaner can eliminate certain germs, molds, and viruses from a surface. HALO surface cleaner and protectant is safe and effective on most hard surfaces including linoleum, plastic, ceramic, glass, marble, copper, wood, stone, and stainless steel. Once fortified by HALO cleaner, surfaces are protected by a thin layer of natural minerals in a unique solution that continues to provide protection.
