One of Los Angeles’s many quirks is that groups of young 20-somethings plan an entire afternoon around which mural is the most ideal for Instagram.
In fact, Los Angeles Magazine has an entire list of the city’s top spots to pose for your ’gram. What these iconic pictures don’t show you are the 10 or so people waiting for their turn to take the same picture.
Among the most famous pieces of graffiti to pose in front of are wings, perchance a play on the “City of Angels” nickname. This mural is the latest of the “wing” variety to pop up, but there is a catch.
To take a selfie in front of this mural, you have to be social media famous.
The mural is protected by a security guard who, it seems, will see if you have a verified check next to your Twitter name or at least 20,000 followers before you’re allowed to enter.
Naturally, this has caused plenty of people to lose hope in our future generations, or at least art.
While one would be quick to assume that this is another attempt for people to inflate their egos, it’s more likely for a different reason.

The fine print of the sign reads, “Influencers: Please tag us on social media!”
The accounts listed are for “like and subscribe,” which promise to come out on July 9.
Ironically, these social media accounts would not even be able to take a picture in front of their own mural due to their lack of followers.
Some eagle-eyed fans have noted that this seems to be a stunt by EDM artist Dillon Francis.
Whoever is behind this tongue-in-cheek marketing scheme, I salute you. And please let me pose in front of it, I need to validate my life in the form of “likes.”
