In the following excerpt from the Gaming and Leisure Report, the co-CEO and President of Century Casinos discusses the outlook for his company for investors:
TWST: Would you please start with some background and history on the origins of Century Casinos, and tell us about how the company has changed or evolved over the past 20 years? And what is its focus today?
Mr. Hoetzinger: Century Casinos was formed in 1992 by its current Co-CEOs, Erwin Haitzmann and myself. We started with just one small casino in Colorado, and have since grown to 25 casino properties in the U.S., in Canada, in Aruba, the Caribbean, in Eastern Europe and on luxury cruise vessels. We offer over 3,000 slot machines and more than 220 gaming tables, and also a variety of other facilities such as hotel rooms, great restaurants and bars, entertainment lounges, a comedy club, as well as popular sports and concert venues. And due to their convenient locations and our focus on personal service, our casinos generate a very high proportion of repeat business from local customers.
TWST: The properties Century Casinos owns and/or operates today, what characterizes the markets and the properties themselves?
Mr. Hoetzinger: We are truly an international casino company with midsized casinos focusing on the locals markets. That's really our niche - the locals markets - and we do that on an international scale. The core catchment area of each property is within about 100 miles, and our customers typically visit us once a week.
We have a great team of experienced casino staff of about 1,600 from 32 different nationalities, and that experience and diversity of our people enables us to adapt our management style, our customer and service focus to the respective local situations and cultures, and that gives all our casinos that special local flavor and character worldwide.
TWST: What growth or expansion plans does the company have in the land-based portion of its business?
