DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Polk County supervisors have approved a plan to add more slot machines at Iowa's Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in.
Supervisors voted 3-2 Tuesday in favor of letting the casino borrow $10.7 million to expand gambling to a space between the current casino floor and a new hotel and build a new storage building.
The expansion at the Altoona, Iowa casino is expected to add around 300 new slots and $400,000 to $500,000 to county offers in its share of profits from the new machines.
Supervisors John Mauro and Robert Brownell voted no. Mauro says he's concerned about the casino being forthright about finances. Brownell questions how much gambling is needed, saying the expansion seems premature.
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission must also approve the plan before the casino can proceed.
