One of the great things about the Stanley Cup Playoffs is how fans in local markets get behind their teams in unique ways.
Sam Cremeens, a.k.a. Sam the Balloon Man, is a Nashville Predators fan who has taken his talent for balloon artistry and turned it into a giant show of support for Pekka Rinne. After about eight hours and approximately 500 balloons, he created this suit in honor of the Predators goaltender.
Goalie pads have ballooned over the years but this is ridiculous…
Cremeens has been working at his craft for nearly 15 years. He was inspired to get involved with balloon artistry during his rehab from brain trauma suffered after a motorcycle accident. He recently completed a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles design, which led him to thinking he could create one in the form of a hockey goalie. And since the Predators are in the Stanley Cup Final, why not Rinne?
“Seeing people react to it. Oh my gosh, I can’t even explain how awesome that it,” he told the Tennessean. “You are making people smile so big and so happy. It’s infectious. I love it.”
Cremeens has been making the rounds promoting the Rinne suit, including an appearance on WKRN in Tennessee which is captured above. The Rinne suit has become so popular that he’s scheduled to appear on CBC television this weekend, showcasing his skill to an international audience.
