NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - December 12, 2012) - The Premier Traveler 2012 Magazine Choice Awards are given annually to companies in the travel industry that go the extra mile in the pursuit of quality. This year, the winners were honored during a ceremony held at Ronald McDonald House New York.
"What better place to hold the celebration of our Magazine Choice Awards than in the heart of our favorite charity?" remarked Adam Rodriguez, Executive Director at PT. "Today we are saluting excellence: We commend our Magazine Choice Award winners for their excellence in providing distinctive services to their customers. Likewise, we praise Ronald McDonald House New York for its excellence in providing support services to families who are fighting a battle against childhood cancer."
Asiana Airlines was awarded "Airline of the Year" for its commitment to safety, innovation and customer service.
President and CEO of Asiana, Mr. Y. D. Yoon, and a group of the airline's senior-level executives who traveled halfway around the world for the occasion, were greeted with a round of applause upon their arrival as U.S. and South Korean media snapped photos.
"For the fourth time, Asiana Airlines is grateful to have been named Airline of the Year," said Mr. Yoon. "As the world's very first airline to have received this prestigious title four years in a row, Asiana is proud to accept the award for our continuous efforts toward excellence. Our aim is to be a pioneer of innovation in the airline industry. This award applauds our efforts, ensuring that we are on the right track."
Asiana Airlines has taken customer satisfaction to new heights. With perquisites that include massages and manicures, fantastic food from flying chefs and extremely attentive flight attendants to answer a traveler's every request, Asiana counts customer satisfaction as the company's main focus.
"Our corporate philosophy is devoted to providing the utmost care and genuine service for our passengers. I believe that this has been recognized with this award," added Mr. Yoon.
In the Bag
Biaggi Folding Luggage won the award for Travel Innovation of the Year. With four smoothly spinning wheels and hinge-lock technology, each piece of finely crafted Biaggi luggage folds flat to address the needs of space-starved travelers. Marcy Schackne, Biaggi Vice President of Marketing, beamed as she accepted the award for the company.
"The beauty of Biaggi luggage that folds is that it is great when you are traveling," said Schackne. "When you arrive at your destination, whether it's a space-restricted cruise cabin or a hotel room, when you unpack, you can easily fold your luggage and store it under the bed or in the side of your closet, giving you more space to live."
"We can't say enough good things about the new Biaggi folding luggage," remarked Rodriguez. "As much as we travel, having luggage that doesn't fight back every time you are rushing through an airport is a major plus. And then being able to store it effortlessly -- well, it's a win-win."
Host with the Most
The Hotel of the Year award went to the luxurious and stylish Sofitel Los Angeles, where PT held its Best of 2012 Gala in November, the most recent in a long string of events the magazine has held at the property over the past half dozen years. With an elegant, cutting-edge design and unparalleled ambiance, Sofitel LA is almost a cultural icon in and of itself.
Sofitel LA General Manager Bill Hanley was honored by the prestigious nod, adding some insight as to what he believes elevated the property above the competition: "It's our job to evolve the product for our guests and to make the effort to innovate again and again. Take, for example, our new restaurant, Esterel, and bar, Riviera 31, two new and exciting developments at Sofitel LA that are sure to be popular among locals and guests alike."
"There is nothing quite like staying at the Sofitel LA," said Jake Porter, PT CEO. "The impeccable service, the elegant design, the sumptuous eateries and spa -- every time we leave there, it's like saying goodbye to family, and we can't wait to return. The hotel has become a second home, in a way."
The awards season serves as the starting point for Premier Traveler's annual charity auction, which will once again benefit Ronald McDonald House New York, a remarkable facility dedicated to supporting pediatric cancer patients and their families as they seek treatment in area hospitals.
Attendees at the Magazine Choice Awards event were able to see first-hand the type of home-away-from-home that RMH-NY provides, with amenities like iPads to help children with their schoolwork and comfortably appointed rooms that are in the process of being renovated.
"It's always such a joy to visit our friends and the families here at the Ronald McDonald House New York," smiled PT Publisher Linda Vaughan. "And we're excited for the high-profile auction from January 15th to April 3rd. If our past auctions are any indication, I look forward to the inevitable bidding wars our readers launch on one another, which help keep this charity institution thriving."
