President Trump to donate $1 million of own funds to Harvey relief

President Trump will donate $1 million of his own personal funds to Hurricane Harvey relief, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced on Thursday.

President Trump and first lady Melania Trump visited with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday after Hurricane Harvey left at least 35 dead and tens of thousands away from their homes. Vice President Mike Pence also visited with volunteers and victims on Thursday.

It is not yet clear when the commander in chief will be offering this donation, and to whom it will be presented, but Huckabee Sanders posed to the press corps that they offer suggestions to the president on what resources would best put his donation to use.

As a former businessman, President Trump is worth an estimated $3.5 billion. After promising to work for free throughout his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump donated his salary from the first quarter to the National Park Service.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock and Ellen DeGeneres are among celebrities who have donated $1 million to relief efforts for those affected by Harvey.
